Hardwood Floor Refinishing
The sanding of hardwood floors is the very essence of what we do best. From newly installed solid hardwood to floors that are more than a century old. We professionally restore all types of wood floors.
Staining is not to be confused with the clear coats of finish that are applied to a floor to preserve it. A stain is actually the coloring of your hardwood floor to a tone other than its natural color or tone. This is a separate step that can be added to the refinishing process.
Many homeowners desire darker, richer looking floors to complement their homes. A darker floor often is perceived as more stately. Burgundies and browns are the most common stains applied. Regular oak floors can be made to look more exotic.
We offer a fine selection of stains most commonly used within the industry that are tested and compatible with the industrial floor finishes applied today. Please understand that the staining process requires very special sanding and preparation techniques. This process if requested is at additional cost.
A stained floor properly done is not only rich but beautiful. Again, please browse through our photo gallery and see a few of the floors we have stained and the rich enduring results. Richly stained floors combined with high profiled white base boards can bring a home from “ho hum” to “fantastic”. Hardwood Floor Repairs
Most hardwood floors will require a measure of repairs prior to refinishing them. Everyday living with children and pets over a period of years can and will damage a hardwood floor. The beauty is that repairs can easily be made. In virtually all cases your flooring can be matched as to age, species and dimension.
Our speciality is the restoration of your beautiful and classic heritage hardwood floors found here in the Vancouver area. We pride ourselves on having mastered the original techniques and methods employed to install these exceptional floors.
What is more, we actually restore these floors to a better state than original. Construction materials, tools and products have greatly improved since the original installation of these floors many decades ago. We would be pleased to explain in detail how this is so. Please look at the photo gallery and see how we have duplicated, repaired and restored the many different types of floors. Do note the beautiful end results.
Hardwood stair refinishing can be most rewarding. This is one of the most difficult of all tasks requiring excellent skills, a tremendous amount of hard work and the proper tools. For this reason the refinishing of stair treads is almost always left to the hardwood floor professional. Few aspects are as labour intensive and at the same time require a good skill set. For these reasons the refinishing of a stair case can easily be the most expensive feature in your home to restore in relation to area. We strongly feel it well worth the investment to have a professional refinish this valuable element of your home.
StairsCareful attention is paid to not damage your finished stringers or risers. Each tread is treated like an antique piece of furniture. The enduring beauty of professionally finished hardwood treads will enhance any home.
Often a stair case links two different flooring levels. When refinished along with the hardwood floors they become one with the stair case. What is more, in many heritage homes as you step into the house, the stair case confronts you immediately. A beautifully refinished stair case then becomes the showpiece and focal point of the home. We invite you to check out our gallery wherein you will see some examples of restored stair cases.
The removal of carpet may not be the most pleasing task yet it is the first step to exposing potentially rich and beautiful hardwood floors covered for many a year. We carefully remove and properly dispose of your old carpeting. The benefits are immediate. A cleaner and healthier floor surface is now ready to restore.
You the homeowner may wish to undertake this task yourself and we can offer direction. Most find this though to be a challenge greater than initially thought. The difficulty of removing the smooth edge without damaging self and floor is the first thing.
Second the hundreds to thousands of embedded staples within the floor surface itself can take an eternity to remove. Again, not damaging the floor when removing the staples is near impossible. Third the disposal of a fair amount of carpeting requires not only a truck but this then must be delivered to an official “Transfer Station” where a dumping fee is required to dispose of it.
Our experience has shown that many will attempt this once only to resolve to have us remove and dispose of the carpeting from then on in. Our acquired methods, techniques and tools enable us to safely remove and dispose of your carpeting in ways you may be unable to.
Most homeowners find it more cost effective to have us remove the carpeting. The savings in time, frustration and disposal as well as minimal damage to the hardwood floor, well make up for the nominal fee for carpet removal.
